Bonjour mes amis! Yesterday was a glorious fall day in Versailles. The kids and I booked a Fat Tire Bike tour earlier in the week when we saw the weather looked good for Thursday. We met our guide, Phil (a nice Jersey boy), and several other tourists at the Fat Tire Office in Paris, near the Eiffel Tower. Once the group was gathered, we walked to the RER train that took us to the town of Versailles. After another short walk there, we picked up our bikes and hit the streets. Our first stop was the Versailles market where we bought picnic provisions. Then we rode onto the grounds. I visited the palace very long ago with my parents but had never seen the extensive grounds before. Without a bicycle, I think it would be impossible to do in one day. I was very jealous of the locals walking their dogs and riding their horses around!
We saw the little escape cottage of Marie Antoinette (called the Hameau de la Reine), the Trianon Palace, and the Grand Canal. After a picnic by the canal, we biked some more and headed back to the bike drop off. According to our guide we biked 8-10 miles and we were exhausted. The tour included tickets to go into the Palace but we took ours with us and plan to go back on another day. Good call as we didn't get home until after 5:00. Enjoy the photos!
